Defoamers - Effective anti foam agents
Unwanted foam can impair processes in industry, food processing and wastewater treatment. To break down and prevent the formation of foam bubbles on the surface, special anti-foam agents are used in many industrial processes. From our range of chemical products you will find high performance anti-foam agents designed to ensure effective foam control and to resolve the challenges of your application. Choose from:
- silicone based and silicone free defoamers
- ready-to-use products and concentrates
- defoamer chemicals based on environmentally friendly natural oil or mineral oil
- solid powders or emulsions for use in aqueous solutions and wastewater treatment
In order to prevent foam formation and to achieve an antifoam effect, defoamers or deaerators are added to the system. These products can be as individual in their effect and system compatibility as the root-cause of the foaming itself.
Foam is differentiated between the macrofoam visible on the surface and the microfoam encased in the liquid, which is characterized by the distribution of very fine foam bubbles.
Defoamers are primarily used for removing surface foam, avoiding air inclusions and spontaneous foam destabilization, while deaerators help to remove finely distributed air from the liquid.
The generation of foam is often fostered by the entry of air or gas into a liquid medium. Due to mechanical impact such as stirring or mixing, air is encased or displaced with the result of bubbles on the surface. Typical substances that cause foam include surfactants, proteins, starch or glucosides.
Our range of antifoam agents and deaerators comprise a wide portfolio of effective components, properties, process compatibility as well compliance with technical and food law requirements. Oil based foam control agents use oil as a carrier. This could be in the form of mineral oil, vegetable oil or silicone oil. For the application of dry powders there are powder defoamers which are mainly used in products like detergents and cement. Silicone based defoaming agents are mostly delivered as a water- or oil based emulsion with a silicone backbone. The advantage of silicone based defoamers in industrial processing is their ability to avoid surface foam and also release entrained air. Water based defoamers on the other hand consist of a dispersion of different oils or waxes in water to ensure that entrained air can be released.
If you want to find out what kind of defoamer chemical is suitable for your industrial process, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will find or formulate the optimal technical product solution for your application.
Our defoamers are characterized by a high degree of customization. Every production process is different with regards to temperature, pH-value, substances and product requirements. We are not looking for the right application of an existing foam control product, but rather formulate the right defoaming agent according to your technical requirements, without additional costs compared to a standard chemical product. Through our smart product selection, the needed amount for traditional process steps such as running costly on-site lab and field trials on-site by our technical team is effectively reduced.
Yes. Besides the application in manufacturing processes, our defoamers are also suitable as additives for the formulation of cleaning agents in which a controlled foaming effect is required.
